Forging still carries the reputation of the hot, heavy and manual shop floor. The best forges today look nothing like that: robots move white-hot billets with millimeter precision, servo-controlled presses shape every part to the same program, machine vision checks each piece as it leaves the die, and digital records follow every batch. For buyers, automation is not a production detail — it is a quality system.
01 · The Problem Automation Solves
The oldest enemy in forging is not heat; it is variation. When parts are loaded and unloaded by hand, cycle time, positioning and die temperature drift with every shift — and so does material flow, flash and final dimensions. Automation removes that variable. Robotic handling positions every billet the same way, at the same moment, at the same temperature. Industry sources report that a single robotic cell can raise output by 30–50% while running around the clock (Engineering Niche).
02 · What an Automated Forge Looks Like
A modern automated line pairs presses with robots: heat-resistant grippers transfer billets from the furnace, position them in the die, and remove the forging for trimming. Servo-controlled presses run programmable force and stroke profiles for each part. Automatic lubrication and cooling keep the cycle stable, and machine-vision systems inspect every part as it exits — flagging dimensional drift, flash thickness and surface defects in real time (Engineering Niche). Cycle times can reach 30 seconds or less on well-integrated lines (SMS Group), and robots have been shown to contribute up to 98% plant availability in forging applications (ABB).
03 · What Automation Does for Quality
Repeatability is the raw material of quality. When every part is made to the same motion, process capability (Cpk) rises and scrap falls; closed-loop inspection catches an out-of-tolerance part before it becomes a batch. Consistent cycles also protect the tooling — fewer thermal and mechanical shocks extend die life, which is unit cost. And every cycle generates data: temperatures, forces, positions and results, linked to each part. That digital trace is exactly what IATF and PPAP documentation ask for.
04 · What It Means for Buyers
For the buyer, automation translates into three things: stable delivery, batch-to-batch consistency and auditable evidence. A supplier with automated lines can hold tight tolerances across high volumes, respond faster to orders, and document the process instead of describing it. When you qualify a forging partner, an automated press shop is not a talking point — it is a capability proof.
05 · An Automated Line Behind Every Order
At Nanjing Liju Precision Forging, automation is embedded in the process. Founded in 1998 and covering 34,000 m² in Nanjing's Liuhe Economic Development Zone, the company runs 300T–1,600T friction screw presses and automated closed-die hot forging lines with robotic handling, plus a cold forging shop, machining, CAD/CAM tooling and an in-house laboratory — exporting to the United States, Germany, Italy, Canada and Japan since 2003 under ISO 9001, IATF 16949 and ISO 14001.

The portfolio spans automotive, railway accessories, high-speed-rail, aviation (including parts supplied for Airbus programs), mining, hydraulic, forklift (Toyota and Crown projects), copper connector and aluminum forging programs — every part released through hardness, CMM, tensile, metallographic, spectro and surface roughness analysis.
